Ride Sunday 12, April

Sunday 1st Dec

Hi All

I've been a bit distracted lately , but am getting on top of things again so this Sunday we are going to do an old favorite with a bit of a twist, its meeting at Kirkby Station. be there for 9:30am (May be able to pick up others on way) and we are going to Glasson Dock - Lancaster , Morecambe, River Lune - The twist is we will revisit the coffee shop we stopped at on our Way of the Roses trip. Its £15 pounds each & that reserves a space for you & your bike in the minibus

Sunday 29, Sept

Have made a last minute change to the planned ride to Ruthin, as our ride leader Alan Rogers can do the ride but on the 6, October (The week after)

Also the long range weather forecast is wet for this Sunday so we plan to stay local. It going to be our favourite 'easy ride' Pier Head to Formby, meeting at 10:30 am and stopping for lunch either at the Hightown pub or in Formby depending on weather.

For those that are thinking of riding with us for the first time, then this is t he one for you it has plenty of get out points if you do not want to do the whole ride, is flat & around 25 miles total

You will enjoy it even if its a bit wet ............................

Sunday 8, Sept

Hi All

Please try to get to our next ride, its the first of our Autumn rides. Our numbers have dropped over the Summer (As always) most of you have other things on during the summer, but before the weather gets colder & the nights get longer we would like to see all our riders join in this easy ride.

We are starting at Hunts Cross train station & going to Hightown, via the Loopline & Cheshire lines. You have a choice at Hightown, those that want to leave the ride early can get the train back as we are right next to the station. or ride back to Liverpool, its about 28 miles round trip, bring a packed lunch or get a 2 for 1 meal at the Hightown hotel ..........

Pier Head to Park Gate

We had a super day trip to Park Gate on Sunday 9, June - intended to get the ferry over to Seacombe but it was cancelled as a rather large cruise ship was being birthed & took up all the Mersey. so we got the train to Hamilton Square & rode to Leasowe light house, we stopped for tea & a bacon butty then onto Hoylake West Kirby & Thursterson. Weather was hot. We had lunch on the prom (Ha Ha) then made our way back through Eastham , Rock Ferry & to the train for 4:00 pm . Nice to see Alan Rogers back in the saddle - Hope to see you all soon on our next ride .........................

Sunday 26 May

Sankey Valley - St Helens

6 of us met at St Helens Central Train Station for the Sankey valley ride. The tracks & canals were in good condition, a bit muddy in places but fine for our guys

It was a very scenic route & was quite an easy route to follow, the only hitch was the number of gates to go through & one or two to clamber over.

We got to the Ferry Inn on the Mersey & we all had lunch. After a talk we decided to ride back via the 'Dream' in St Helens. We rode the the top & had a short rest then down into St Helens . Weather was good & the company great. Welcome to Eric who joined us for this ride & see you all in 2 weeks after 'The Way of the Roses (This weekend) ...............

Hunts Cross to Delamere Forest

All 11 of us met at Hunts Cross - Sunday 19, May 2013 - 10:30 for our ride to to Delamere Forest, it was overcast but nice cycling weather. We agreed to stick to the quiet roads & to cut out Pickering Pastures with the steps, as we have approx 45 miles round trip to cover. When we arrived at the Catalyst Museum some decided to return after we had coffee, but most rode onto Delamere. It was a bit crowded as the 'Race for Life ' Walk was being done at the Railway Cafe. We had our packed lunches & a short stroll then back to Hunts Cross , happy times had by all - Special welcome to our new riders Christine & Francis see you all next Sunday .............

Sunday 14, April - Change to Venue

We are riding Sunday, however a change of plan, due to feedback, the Peak District routes we had planned to ride are very muddy & there is still melting snow around. So change of venue we are getting the train to Southport & doing a route back to Liverpool.

We are meeting at approx 11am at Morrisions Cafe in Southport. If you get to Lord St turn left & its at the end of the prom by Splash world Swimming pool

Any new riders please note that a 'Day Saver ticket' is approx £4:60 its easy to use & your bike goes free. If you get the 10am train your sure to meet up with us - Weather look OK for Sunday

We had a splendid day out yesterday, 10 of us went on the ferry over to Seacombe & met up with Bob & Elaine. We cycled through Newbrighton to Hoylake then onto West Kirby & Hooton. Stopped for lunch at G.J's cafe Thursturson, met 2 nutty girls dressed in Pink on dubious bikes, we all had a laugh trying to adjust them & the girls where good fun too . Onward to Eastham & a stop at the Tap pub for coffee & a pint then through Port Sunlight to catch the Train or the ferry back to Liverpool. Thanks to all that made the effort & I think you all had a lovely time...... See you all for our next ride, happy holiday to Jim & hopefully no punctures next time for Eddy ............

Sunday 7, April - Wirral Ride

Hi Everyone

We are planning a ride for Sunday 7, April - Meeting at the Pier Head for the 11am Ferry to Seacombe. Riding to West Kirby & onto the Wirral Way. Its a ride suitable for most abilities. Its our first ride after the bad weather so lets get together & dust the bikes off. We will be stopping
for coffee & lunch on the way. Should be back for 4pm .......

Suggest you get a Day Saver tickets which covers both ferry & trains for the day, those wishing to leave early have the option of the train home. If your coming in by train get the ticket at your nearest train station, alternatively you can get it at the ferry terminal (approx £4:60 )

Sundays Ride 24, March - Postponed Bad Weather

We are planning to visit the Peak district & offer two rides , meeting at 8:30am & should be back for 6pm

1) Monsul trail, its an easy route for our beginners that want to try out our rides, its around 18 miles & quite flat, beautiful scenery ............

2) Buxton Circular (Incl Monsul Trail) we did it last year & added on the High Peak & Tissington trails, so the more experienced can join us for this longer route around 45 miles. We will change the longer route if our riders wish to take in an alternative when we get to Bakewell ............

2nd March - Saturday Ride

Hi All

(UPDATE)
Well done to all 10 riders that joined us for the Anglesey tour. we covered 46 miles & it was hillier than expected also slightly longer using the Sustrans routes 5 & 8, which run around the Island. Would like your views on this ride as we had mixed comments. Most of them good. However we all expected to be on the coast being an Island, but were mostly inland.

If you agree I suggest we do this ride again but stick to the coastal roads & put in an overnight stop & split the ride into 2 days .....................................................................

(LAST WEEK)
Yes its Spring & we are planning a new ride for you all, its the Anglesey Circular, quite a challenge to get you all to Anglesey & back. Picking up at 7:30am at Brian's in Queens Drive, back into Liverpool for approx 7pm. The ride is a 58 mile circular around Anglesey with Snowdon in the background & its not too hilly. Its a Saturday ride to allow you all to recover on the Sunday. We will have our 2 support vehicles so don't worry about bikes & transport unless you wish to meet us there at Menai Bridge (If so its £5pounds each) We will carry Spares, Maps, Tea, Coffee, Water, first aid kits etc. Stopping for lunch on the way. Lots of time to make arrangements but we only have spaces for 10 riders so get in touch ........................

Sunday 20, Jan - Ellesmere Port Boat Museum POSTPONED, BAD WEATHER

Sundays ride has been changed as the weather for the next week or so is cold, so we thought we would stay local & keep our winter programme to under 35 miles.

The ride to the boat museum is a popular ride & we have done it a couple of times, suitable for all abilities. Wrap up warm, bring food for lunch just in-case there is a queue at the cafe.

Backup plan if you need it is the train home, so buy a saver ticket which covers you for train & ferry(£4:60p). Its a 10am ferry from Pier head so don't be late. Should be back before 3:30pm.

This ride is a chance for any new riders to come & meet us & see what we do, you will enjoy it ~~~~ Safe cycling ~~~~~

Sundays Ride 18, Nov - Ladybower Resevoir

Hi All

This seasons autumn ride schedule was ticking along great until 2 weeks ago, then for all sorts of reasons our participation has fallen away. As a result the last two rides have been cancelled. Alan & I thought it was due to the fact that these two rides were further afield & people needed more time to plan the day, or simply that we all had other things on.

Please let us know early if you can attend this Sundays ride, which is to the Peak District. We chose this ride as a result of feedback from you saying that it was one of our best rides this year. We are trying a new route so you don't get bored. Its a circular route around Lady-bower Reservoir. Its 16 miles & quite flat. We will be adding on more miles & visiting Castleton. The meeting place & pick up times are shown in our ride schedule. Alan has located a ranger cafe & nice pub for lunch & we will be stopping for coffee as usual. Finally we have the Van & Minibus ready for this ride so come and get involved

Change to next weekends ride

We had planned to cycle from Pier Head to Hightown on Sunday 28th Oct & stop for lunch, however we have changed the day to Saturday as there is a small sports event on Sunday 'Footy' Liverpool v Everton Derby, which clashes with our planned ride ................

So lets see you all on Saturday 27th Oct 11am at the Pier Head. Its a shortish ride & flat, so suitable for all levels of ability. Feel free to invite all your friends its around 25 Miles return trip.

As usual I will post a weather update at 9am on the day

Sunday 16, Sept

Our next ride is around Crank and Rainford, starting at Hunts Cross station at 10 am, there are a number of hills such as Hall lane in Rainhill and crank hill past the hospital also the busy crossing of the East lancs so it wont be suitable for all riders. It will be about 35/40 miles. We will stop at the Fir Tree for lunch but it may be busy so its best to bring food.

Sorry Guys I have a christening to attend on Sunday, so Brian & Gill will lead this ride as they know it well

Widnes to Delamere Forest

Sunday 5, Aug Wirral Wander

Hi All

We are riding on Sunday, from the Pier Head & getting the 10am ferry across to Seacombe. We recommend you purchase a saver ticket that allows both ferry & train travel. You can pick them up at your train station or at the ferry terminal. the ride is approx 38 miles, down to Hooton & return. Stopping for lunch at GJ's cafe in Thurstaston. Its quite a popular ride & its a chance to meet up with new & old friends . See you all soon

Delamere Risk Assessment

Hi All

We are going to Delamere Forest on Sunday 29,July if you wish to join us, we are getting the train from Moorfields to Chester & riding 12 miles to Delamere. The rides in Delamere are all off road & classified as 'easy', we did 10 miles today in the forest & the photos show some of the highlights. You all will enjoy it, its not as long in distance as our normal rides but we have lot planned, hope the weather holds out. I will get more information & an email to you all tomorrow. If you wish to come along in your car & bring the kids or grand children then that is OK, get in touch for the meeting points etc >>>>>>

Sunday 22 July Peak District

Well done to all our riders that got up early & joined us on Sunday. Everyone had a great days riding. We started at 8:15 am & finised at 8:15pm a long day full of good memories. No rain, No Punctures .............................

We rode from Buxton on the Monsal Trail & then on road for around 8 miles all uphill but great views over the hills, then onto the High Peak trail & back to Buxton. We stopped in Bakewell for a tart & refreshements then onto the Hartington pub for lunch, the waitress spoke broken French (I think) eventually we all got milky coffee or a pint. Brian Corser said the ride was worth it for the last hill, which was a steep decline along the A6 into the car park, he got upto 38 MPH, hit a bump & his front light pinged off under a lorry.

On the way home Brian Jones took us upto the Cat & Fiddle, were we had a beautiful view of the Lakes & all around the peak District, a few more coffees & a pint or two , plenty of cyclists & also lots of motorbikers ............

Peak District Pleasure

We have brought this ride forward as it was planned for 5, Aug & our van is not available that weekend so we thought it would be best to do this ride on Sunday 22, July. We are meeting at Brian Jones (180 Queens Drive) by the 5 ways pub. Meeting for 8am. Its £10 each & your bikes go free in the van. We can take 15 & we still have spaces left. We will have a fleet of cars following the van, its 52 miles to Buxton. I have sent out a newsletter earlier this week with the sat Nav details. The meeting point is Morrisons on the edge of Buxton (A6). The attached images show the Monsal Trail & the High Peak Trails. The ride is around 40 Miles (Yes) I'm right this time.

Note: Brian has agreed, you can drop your bikes at his the night before (Saturday) if this helps you ???

There is an optional shorter loop, for those that want to do less mileage, the Monsal trail is 10 miles long, so those wanting to do 20 miles only can choose to follow the trail back to Buxton

Peak District Risk Assessment Ride

Hi Everyone

Congratulations to all that completed the Liverpool to Chester ride on Sunday, well done everyone. Particularly those guys looking after the groups with slower riders as this is often a thankless task .........

Anyway getting back to business. Alan & I are going over to the Peak district on Thursday to ride the circular routes that Ken Montgomery suggested. if anyone wants to join us, they are most welcome. we can take 15 bikes in the van(£10 pounds each bike) and we can co ordinate lifts in cars for our riders, its short notice & mid week so please get back to us for confirmation & pick up points ..................

Norton Priory Sunday 24, Jun 11am

This ride looks popular and I have already had 8 confirmations, Hope to see Jimmy, Pat, Gill, Eddy & Barbara plus all our regulars ............

Recover to Discover

We are all invited to ride at Halton council's special event ride on 1st July, starting at 11am. Its designed for adults who have recovered from a health problem. Similar to our 'Cycle for Heath' rides.

Its by application form only so you will need to contact me this week for a form, thats if you wish to join us. Its a popular event & will attract around 40 riders on the day.

Some of our riders have already rode the route which includes parts of the Transpennine trail, Manchester ship canal, Runcorn Bridge etc. Its mostly off road & would not suit a road bike, ideal for a hybrid or mountain bike. Its approx 17 Miles total

Our Ride to Winter Hill

10 of us met at Rainford Train Station on Sunday at 11am for a trip to Winter Hill. The weather was great (unusual) Our guides were Paul & Pete, who knew this route well. We rode via Skelmersdale, Apply Bridge, Standish, Coppull, Charnock Richard, Rivington, Blackrod, Aspull, Wigan, Billinge. Quite Hilly with lots of quiet country roads. Most of us did well over 50 miles. We stopped for lunch at the tea rooms at Rivington Pike, & a well earned pint at the railway pub in Rainford. Well done to everyone, as most found this ride the hardest one so far........

Ellsmere Port Potter

We met at the Pier Head & got the ferry over to Seacombe, it was a glorious day sun shine & little to no wind.

Jim Riding took us down to the boat museum at Ellsmere port, rode via port sunlight village. We had lunch & then returned to Liverpool via a little known cycle path through the Vauxhall Motors car site, one of Brian Jones short cuts that was very pleasent & quite.

Sundays Ride 1, April - Rumble Round Runcorn

We met at Widnes Train Station, Weather was great Sunny & very Calm, Colin & Les Lead the ride . We went down to the Catalyst Museum along the St Helens Canal to Fiddlers Ferry on NCR 62. then onto the Transpennine trail & across the river Mersey by a steel bridge, down to 'The Arches. & into Walton for lunch at the Stag Inn. We picked up the trail at Moore Nature Reserve, along to the Manchester Ship Canal & onto Wigg Island were we crossed the canal on an old swing bridge leading into Old Runcorn. up to the canal again & on some nice cycle paths past the Brindley Theatre. We rode across the Runcorn Bridge & through Widnes back to the Catalyst Museum for Coffee then a short ride upto Widnes Station. Thanks to All 14 Riders that Joined us & nice to see some faces from previous rides we have done

Sunday 15, April 2012 - Knowsley Circular

Thanks for the good feedback for this new route 'The Knowsley Circular', we had 11 Riders join us for this ride, on a crisp Sunny Sunday.

We met at 11am - Kirkby Train Station. The route took in Kirkby , Melling, Maghull, Bickerstaffe, Rainford, Knowsley Village, Croxteth Country Park, West Derby, Broad Green, Fazakerley, using quiet roads, Canals & Cycle Paths most of the route

It was 26 Miles Total. Arriving back in Kirkby at 3pm. We stopped for lunch in Croxteth country park. Sorry no pictures taken this time, however Brian Corser asked to be mentioned in despatches .

River Lune Bike Ride Through Lancaster & Morecambe

River Lune Sunday - 19 Feb 2012

Arrived at Glasson Dock 10:45am. We had 9 Riders for this beautiful Sunny day, not much wind & no rain. Domingo has a full Garmin route report for those that want a copy, let me know & I will get him to email it to you. we did 32 miles in 4.3 hours, passing through Lancaster Caton, Cruck of Lune, & Morecambe. Stopped for lunch at the Greyhound Inn & had tea / coffee back at the van. Home for 6:00pm - See photos by Domingo

Pier Head to Formby 18,Mar 2012

We had 10 riders join us for the round trip to Formby. Weather was great, Nice & sunny crisp with no wind. We rode along the canal to Rimrose valley park , then onto Crosby promenade, to Hightown train station were we had lunch in the Hightown Hotel. Our return journey was at a nice sedate pace past Lady Green Garden centre through Little Crosby & Old Roan. Everyone had a good day & we all did around 25 miles or even more.
