Wirral Circular - Sunday 14, Aug 2011 - 10am Ferry

We met at 9:45am at the ferry ticket office, Brian, Les, Gill, Ian, Sandra & our spy Rob who did not ride with us but was there in spirit . It was dull & overcast but the rain stayed off whilst we enjoyed the ferry over the Mersey, Gill & her grandson Corey kept us entertained. As we disembarked the heavens opened, so we went for coffee in the terminal building. After 20 minutes the rain died down & we said good bye to Corey who was met by his mum. We had not done this ride before so we took a look at the maps & followed the coast keeping the docks in sight on our left, until we spotted a cycle path with directions to Eastham. The path was roughly following the A41 New Chester road, until it stopped & we had to ride a short distance on the A41 to the M53 intersection. We turned right onto the  B5133 at a hotel called Chimneys, heading towards Hooton Train Station. We picked up Wirral Country Park at Neston then through, Parkgate, Thurstaston, we stopped at GJ's cafe for coffee & a break, then onwards to West Kirby. Hoylake, Newbrighton & back to the Ferry to Liverpool. We did 40 Miles

Things to remember:

1) The pace was a bit fast in the Wirral Country Park - My mistake !

2) The A41 was too busy for our type of rides - Avoid !!

3) Wirral Council have tried to stop cyclists using part of the coastal paths at Leasowe but failed as the signs are inadequate & none existent, so cyclist are totally unaware

4) Ferry times on Sundays are hourly - On the hour from Liverpool & on the Half Hour from Seacombe

5) It is recommended that you buy a 'saveaway' ticket (£4:60p) at the ferry or at your train   station you can travel anywhere on Merseyside down as far as Chester, so if you need to get back & want to finish early you can get the train home.

6) Don't forget you can get the full set of Travelwise maps for Merseyside (free) if you visit their WEB site:    http://www.letstravelwise.org/
