Seven of us met at St Helens train station at 10am, a smaller turn out than normal probably due the weather being windy & overcast, John had rode the route on Saturday & told us the wind was behind us going out & coming back against us, so the initial 20 miles was pleasant. We stopped for coffee in Rufford just as it started to rain so we missed most of the wet weather. We made our way to Newburgh for lunch in the Red Lion, then made our way back through to the Stanley Gate & back onto the Rainford Bypass to St Helens.
St Helens - Rainford - Bickerstaffe - Aughton - Lydiate - Halsall - Bescar - Rufford
Then back thro Lathom - Newburgh - Westhead - Stanley Gate - Bickerstaffe - Rainford & St Helens. (Approx 45 miles mostly quiet roads)
This is a popular route with the more experienced cyclists, not so popular with grumpy car drivers that seem to think cyclists just get in the way.
