RIDE EVALUATION :- Rob and I run a monthly biketime ride for 'TravelWise' which starts at 2:00pm from the Austin Rawlinson Leisure Centre, in Speke. Today's ride was planned to go to Fiddlers Ferry, which is approx; 22 miles round trip.
13 Riders started out ..........
Who says 13 is unlucky. There were 5 new participants. Also 5 who borrowed bikes from the container at “Create” There were numerous bike adjustments to be made, so the ride did not commence until 2.15pm. It became obvious at the start of the ride that three new members (A mum and 2 children) had no road cycling experience and decided not to continue the ride, so Les took them back to the car park. Claudia had to return to base as 2 new riders (with borrowed bikes) wished not to continue (one felt unwell) That left us with 9 riders. There was a strong face wind and after fixing our first puncture we reached Spike island at 3.40pm, where the decision was made to cut the ride short, so refreshments were taken at the Catalyst Museum Café. We had 2 further punctures on our return leg and the main group completed the ride at 5.30pm Rob and Les then assisted a regular (Stan) back to base by 6pm (slow puncture) where from there he was happy to make his way home via Hunts Cross Train station, with his slow puncture and a borrowed bike pump. Everyone who completed the ride had an enjoyable, if eventful afternoon. The next Speke Ride is on Sun 3rd Oct at 2pm, same venue, route will be announced later in the month ................
